Medicare choices change every year, and 2027 brings bigger changes than usual for Central Oregon. Bend Health Insurance is a local, independent agency in Redmond that helps Bend-area residents with Medicare Advantage, Medicare Supplement (Medigap) and Part D prescription drug plans. We explain how each option works with your doctors, prescriptions and budget, then help you enroll. There's no cost to you for our help.
We do not offer every plan available in your area. Currently we represent 2 organizations which offer 3 products in your area. Please contact Medicare.gov or 1-800-MEDICARE to get information on all of your options.
Bend Health Insurance is an independent insurance agency and is not connected with or endorsed by the U.S. government or the federal Medicare program.
During the Annual Enrollment Period you can:
• Switch from Original Medicare to a Medicare Advantage plan, or back again
• Change from one Medicare Advantage plan to another
• Join, switch or drop a Part D prescription drug plan
Changes you make by December 7, 2026 take effect January 1, 2027. Even if you like your plan, read your Annual Notice of Change. Premiums, drug lists, copays and provider networks can all change for 2027.
If your plan is ending in 2027: Providence Health Plan has announced it won't offer Medicare Advantage plans in 2027. If your current plan isn't renewing, you may also have a Special Enrollment Period from December 8, 2026 through the end of February 2027, and you may have guaranteed rights to buy certain Medigap policies. Check the notice from your plan, then call us and we'll go over your options.
Medicare Advantage plans are offered by private insurance companies approved by Medicare. They provide your Part A (hospital) and Part B (medical) coverage, and many also include Part D drug coverage. Some plans include extra benefits, such as dental, vision or hearing coverage.
• Most use provider networks (HMO or PPO), so it matters which Bend and Redmond doctors, clinics and hospitals are in network.
• Every Medicare Advantage plan has a yearly limit on what you pay out of pocket for covered Part A and Part B services.
• Plan premiums, copays and benefits vary by plan and by county.
Who we represent: for Medicare Advantage, we represent PacificSource. We'll check whether your doctors, your hospital and your prescriptions are covered before you choose. If a PacificSource plan isn't the right fit, we'll help you look at other options on Medicare.gov's Plan Finder.
Medicare Supplement insurance works alongside Original Medicare and helps pay costs Medicare doesn't, such as deductibles, coinsurance and copays.
• Medigap plans are standardized: a Plan G from one insurer has the same basic benefits as a Plan G from another. Premiums and service differ, so it pays to compare.
• You can see any doctor or hospital nationwide that accepts Medicare, with no network and no referrals.
• Medigap doesn't include prescription drug coverage, so most people pair it with a Part D plan.
• Who we represent: Medicare Supplement plans from Mutual of Omaha and Regence BlueCross BlueShield.
• The most important window is your Medigap Open Enrollment Period: the 6 months starting the month you're 65 or older and enrolled in Part B. Outside that window, insurers can usually review your health, except when you have a guaranteed-issue right.
Part D plans help cover prescription drugs. Each plan has its own drug list (formulary), pharmacy network and costs.
• For 2027, the most you'll pay out of pocket for covered Part D drugs is $2,400. After you reach that amount, you pay nothing for covered drugs for the rest of the year.
• Who we represent: for stand-alone Part D plans, we represent HealthSpring. We'll also help you compare other Part D plans on Medicare.gov's Plan Finder, using your actual prescriptions and preferred Bend pharmacies.
• If you don't have creditable drug coverage when you're first eligible, you may owe a late enrollment penalty if you sign up later.
• Local: our office is in Redmond, and we've helped Central Oregon residents with insurance for more than 30 years.
• Independent: we represent PacificSource (Medicare Advantage), Mutual of Omaha and Regence BlueCross BlueShield (Medicare Supplement) and HealthSpring (Part D), and we'll help you check other options on Medicare.gov. (See the disclaimer above.)
• Licensed: Gary Evenvold, Oregon license #2544137.
• No cost to you: insurance companies pay us, and your premium is the same whether you enroll with us or on your own.
• Year-round help: we're here after you enroll, for ID cards, billing questions, network changes and next year's review.
Bring your medication list and the names of your doctors. We'll compare your options and show you how they differ, with no obligation.

When can I change my Medicare plan for 2027?
During the Medicare Annual Enrollment Period, October 15 – December 7, 2026. Changes take effect January 1, 2027. If you're in a Medicare Advantage plan, you can also make one change between January 1 and March 31, 2027.
I'm turning 65. When should I sign up?
Your Initial Enrollment Period is 7 months long: it starts 3 months before the month you turn 65, includes your birthday month, and ends 3 months after it. Signing up early helps avoid a gap in coverage. You enroll in Parts A and B through Social Security (ssa.gov).
What's the difference between Medicare Advantage and a Medicare Supplement?
Medicare Advantage replaces how you get your Original Medicare benefits and usually uses a provider network. A Medicare Supplement works alongside Original Medicare and lets you see any provider that accepts Medicare, but you'll usually add a separate Part D plan. You can't have both at the same time.
My Providence Medicare Advantage plan is ending. What do I do?
Providence has announced it won't offer Medicare Advantage plans in 2027. Choose a new plan during the Annual Enrollment Period (by December 7, 2026) so your new coverage starts January 1, 2027. Options we can help with include a PacificSource Medicare Advantage plan, or Original Medicare with a Mutual of Omaha or Regence Medicare Supplement plus a HealthSpring Part D plan. We can also walk you through other plans on Medicare.gov. If you miss December 7, a Special Enrollment Period for non-renewed plans may still apply. Call us for a review.
Do you charge for your help?
No. Insurance companies compensate us, and you pay the same premium whether you enroll through us or directly.
