Oregon residents have several options when it comes to securing health coverage. Depending on household size, age, income, and eligibility requirements, people may qualify for private health insurance, Medicare, employer-sponsored benefits, or public programs such as the Oregon Health Plan (OHP).
For many Oregonians, the first step is determining whether they qualify for financial assistance through the Marketplace. The Marketplace allows consumers to compare plans, review benefits, and evaluate costs before selecting coverage. Because plan availability and provider networks can vary by region, working with a licensed broker can help simplify the process and ensure you understand all available options.
At Bend Health Insurance, we help clients throughout Oregon compare health insurance plans and identify coverage that aligns with their healthcare needs, preferred providers, and budget.
The Oregon Health Plan provides health care coverage for qualifying individuals and families through Oregon's Medicaid program. Eligibility is generally based on income and household circumstances.
Individuals who do not qualify for OHP may be eligible for financial assistance through the Oregon Marketplace. The Marketplace offers access to Affordable Care Act-compliant plans and may provide premium tax credits that help lower monthly costs.
Private health insurance remains another option for individuals, families, and small business owners seeking comprehensive medical coverage. Depending on your situation, it may make sense to compare Marketplace plans alongside private insurance options to determine which solution provides the greatest value.
Our advisors help clients evaluate benefits, provider access, prescription coverage, and overall costs before making a decision.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment period for health insurance in Oregon runs from November 1, 2025, to January 15, 2026. To have your health coverage start on January 1, 2026, you must enroll by December 15, 2025. If you apply between December 16 and January 15, your coverage will begin on February 1, 2026.
If you qualify for the Oregon Health Plan (OHP)—Oregon’s Medicaid program—you can enroll any time of year. In addition, special enrollment periods are available if you’ve experienced a qualifying life event like losing coverage, moving, or having a child.

Most people become eligible for Medicare at age 65, even if they’re still working. You can sign up during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which begins three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birth month, and continues for three months after.
If you're already receiving Social Security benefits when you turn 65, you’ll typically be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B automatically. If not, you'll need to apply manually through the Social Security Administration.
If you miss your IEP, you may have to wait for the General Enrollment Period and could face a penalty unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
