Important Oregon Health Insurance Update for 2027

Providence Health Plan and PacificSource are exiting Oregon's individual health insurance market at the end of 2026. If you currently have coverage through either carrier, you will likely need to select a new individual or family health insurance plan during the 2027 Open Enrollment period.

This transition may affect many Eugene residents who currently receive care through Providence providers, PacificSource plans, or healthcare systems serving Eugene, Springfield, and Lane County. While your doctors and hospitals may remain the same, the insurance plans that provide in-network access to those providers may change.

Following these departures, Oregon residents shopping for individual and family health insurance coverage may find plans from:

  • Kaiser Permanente
  • Moda Health
  • Regence BlueCross BlueShield of Oregon
  • BridgeSpan Health

Because every insurance company offers different provider networks, prescription drug formularies, deductibles, and covered healthcare facilities, it's important to review your healthcare needs before enrolling in a new plan.

Important Considerations for Eugene Residents

Health insurance decisions in Eugene involve much more than comparing monthly premiums. Many residents receive care through PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, PeaceHealth Sacred Heart University District, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, PeaceHealth Medical Group, Oregon Medical Group, and independent specialists throughout Lane County.

If you regularly see specialists or receive ongoing treatment, confirming that your preferred providers participate in your new plan can help you avoid unexpected out-of-pocket costs.

Before choosing a 2027 health insurance plan, we recommend:

  • Reviewing any notices received from your current insurance carrier.
  • Creating a list of your primary care physician, specialists, prescription medications, and preferred hospitals.
  • Confirming whether your preferred doctors, specialists, hospitals, and clinics participate in your prospective health plan's provider network.
  • Comparing both Marketplace and private health insurance options available in Oregon.
  • Scheduling a personalized coverage review with Bend Health Insurance before Open Enrollment.

If you receive a notice regarding changes to your current coverage, contact our team. We'll help you compare available plans, review provider networks, verify physician participation, evaluate prescription drug coverage, and identify health insurance options that best fit your healthcare needs and budget.

Although these carrier changes will require many Oregon residents to select new coverage for 2027, they also provide an opportunity to review your healthcare needs and determine whether another plan offers better provider access, benefits, prescription coverage, or overall value for you and your family.

Understanding Health Insurance Networks in Eugene

Choosing the right health insurance plan starts with understanding its provider network. While monthly premiums are important, your network determines which doctors, specialists, clinics, hospitals, and healthcare facilities are available at the lowest out-of-pocket cost.

Many Eugene residents receive care through PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend, PeaceHealth Sacred Heart University District, McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center, PeaceHealth Medical Group, Oregon Medical Group, and independent healthcare providers throughout Lane County. Others regularly travel between Eugene and Springfield for specialty care, advanced imaging, outpatient procedures, surgery, rehabilitation, and follow-up treatment.

Because provider contracts and insurance networks can change from year to year, it's important to verify that your preferred physicians, specialists, hospitals, and medical facilities participate in your health plan before enrolling.

Our team helps clients compare plans based on:

  • Provider networks
  • Prescription drug coverage
  • Monthly premiums
  • Deductibles and out-of-pocket costs
  • Specialist access
  • Referral requirements
  • Travel and emergency coverage
  • Health Savings Account (HSA) compatibility
  • Medicare compatibility

Rather than simply comparing premiums, we help you evaluate the overall value of each plan based on how you and your family actually use healthcare services.

Healthcare Providers Serving Eugene & Lane County

Eugene serves as the primary healthcare destination for much of Lane County and surrounding communities. Patients from Springfield, Cottage Grove, Junction City, Florence, Creswell, Veneta, Oakridge, Coburg, and neighboring areas often travel to Eugene for specialized medical care that may not be available closer to home.

Understanding the role of the area's major healthcare providers can help you choose a health insurance plan that aligns with your medical needs.

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend

Located in neighboring Springfield, PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center at RiverBend is one of Oregon's largest regional referral hospitals. It provides advanced services including emergency medicine, trauma care, cardiovascular care, cancer treatment, neurosciences, orthopedic surgery, women's health, diagnostic imaging, and intensive care. Many patients throughout western Oregon rely on RiverBend for specialized treatment and complex medical procedures.

PeaceHealth Sacred Heart University District

PeaceHealth's University District campus continues to provide a variety of healthcare services for Eugene residents, including behavioral health, rehabilitation, outpatient care, and other community-based medical services that complement the RiverBend campus.

McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center

McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center serves Eugene and Springfield with comprehensive inpatient and outpatient services, emergency care, surgical procedures, diagnostic imaging, maternity care, and specialty medical services. Many insurance plans include McKenzie-Willamette providers, but network participation can vary by carrier.

PeaceHealth Medical Group & Oregon Medical Group

Many Eugene residents receive routine care through primary care physicians and specialists affiliated with PeaceHealth Medical Group or Oregon Medical Group. These organizations provide family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, women's health, specialty care, and coordinated referrals throughout Lane County.

Because insurance carrier networks differ, confirming that your preferred physicians and healthcare facilities participate in your selected health plan can help prevent unexpected out-of-pocket expenses and ensure continuity of care.

Access to Healthcare Providers in Eugene

One of the most common questions we hear is whether a specific doctor, hospital, or specialist is included in a particular health insurance plan.

Because every insurance carrier maintains its own provider network, access can vary significantly between plans—even those offered by the same insurance company. A physician or healthcare facility may participate in one plan while being considered out-of-network under another.

Before enrolling, we recommend confirming:

  • Whether your primary care physician participates in the network.
  • Whether your specialists are in-network.
  • Whether your preferred hospital or medical center is covered.
  • Whether your prescription medications are included in the plan's formulary.
  • Whether nearby in-network alternatives are available if your current provider is not covered.

Our licensed agents stay informed about Oregon carrier updates, provider networks, and plan changes, helping Eugene residents make informed decisions before Open Enrollment or during a Special Enrollment Period.

Individual & Family Health Insurance Services

Whether you're purchasing health insurance for yourself or your family, we help Eugene residents compare coverage from multiple insurance carriers to find a plan that fits their healthcare needs and budget.

We can help you compare:

  • ACA Marketplace health insurance plans
  • Off-exchange individual health insurance
  • Family health insurance plans
  • Health Savings Account (HSA)-eligible high-deductible health plans
  • Supplemental health insurance
  • Dental and vision insurance

Depending on your household income and eligibility, you may qualify for premium tax credits through the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace, helping reduce the monthly cost of comprehensive health coverage.

Medicare Plans in Eugene

If you're approaching age 65 or already enrolled in Medicare, selecting the right plan involves more than comparing premiums. You'll also want to consider provider networks, prescription drug coverage,

anticipated healthcare needs, and access to the doctors and hospitals you trust.

Our advisors help Eugene residents compare:

  • Medicare Advantage (Part C) plans
  • Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans
  • Medicare Part D prescription drug plans

We'll explain the differences between plan types, review provider participation, and help you choose coverage that supports both your healthcare needs and retirement goals.

Small Business Health Insurance

Providing quality health benefits can help Eugene businesses attract talented employees, improve retention, and support a healthier workforce.

We help employers compare:

  • Group health insurance plans
  • Employer-sponsored coverage
  • SHOP Marketplace options
  • Dental and vision benefits
  • Supplemental employee benefits

Whether you're insuring your first employee or reviewing benefits for an established team, we'll help you balance comprehensive coverage with predictable costs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at gary@bendhealthinsurance.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

The Affordable Care Act (ACA) open enrollment period for health insurance in Oregon runs from November 1, 2026, to January 15, 2027. To have your health coverage start on January 1, 2026, you must enroll by December 15, 2025. If you apply between December 16 and January 15, your coverage will begin on February 1, 2026.

If you qualify for the Oregon Health Plan (OHP)—Oregon’s Medicaid program—you can enroll any time of year. In addition, special enrollment periods are available if you’ve experienced a qualifying life event like losing coverage, moving, or having a child.

Use the Oregon Health Insurance Marketplace’s free Window Shopping tool to view plans, compare health insurance plans, and explore your options for 2027.

Most people become eligible for Medicare at age 65, even if they’re still working. You can sign up during your Initial Enrollment Period (IEP), which begins three months before your 65th birthday, includes your birth month, and continues for three months after.

If you're already receiving Social Security benefits when you turn 65, you’ll typically be enrolled in Medicare Part A and Part B automatically. If not, you'll need to apply manually through the Social Security Administration.

If you miss your IEP, you may have to wait for the General Enrollment Period and could face a penalty unless you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
